MO Local Obituaries for the Week of July 3, 2013 Frank Barnes Frank Barnes of St. James, Missouri was born in St. James, Missouri on May 7, 1926 to Perry and Lina (Kinsman) Barnes and passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James at the age of 87 years. Frank was united in marriage to Lois Mueller on July 14, 1945 and to this union three children were born. Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. After returning home he went to work at the local factory where he spent the next 40 plus years with many companies and many hats. He was a cloth spreader, cutter, and eventually went into the shipping department. Frank was a member of the Solid Rock Christian Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and all sports, he liked to hunt and fish and play softball, he would later coach softball and be the “grandpa in charge” at the grandkids sporting events. He also liked playing rummy. Frank loved to eat and it was always joked about how he was the first in line at any gathering, it didn’t matter who or what event it was, Frank was going to be first in line. Frank loved spending time with his favorite nephew Leroy Harrison of St. James, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Lina Barnes; wife, Lois in January 2013; brothers, Lewis and Walter Barnes; sisters, Bonnie Holman and Edith Bentley. Betty Louise Brown Betty Louise Brown of Sullivan, Missouri was born in Jakes Prairie, Missouri to William Alva and Ada Bland Stack and passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan at the age of 84 years. She married Clinton Brown on July 30, 1947 in Union Missouri. Betty was the Librarian for the Sullivan Public Library for more than 30 years. She sold Avon for many years often times being her own best customer. She attended the Pea Ridge Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ada Stack; her husband, Clinton; son, Gale Brown and two sisters, Mary Livingston and Roberta Dietz and three brothers, Ronnie, Gary and Dale Stack. Lindell “Lin” Earl Clonts Lindell “Lin” Earl Clonts  of St. James, Missouri was born July 14, 1927 in Shirley, Missouri to Walter Bascom Clonts and his wife Jessie Maude Harmon Clonts and passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 85 years. On April 9, 1950 in Rosati, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Christine Piazza and to this union three children were born. Christine preceded him in death in 2012. Lin grew up in Steelville and graduated from Steelville High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. During the early 1950’s, he worked in the Bahamas building airstrips. After marriage and living in Steelville for a short time, he took his wife and family to St. Louis where their children were raised. He worked in concrete construction, helping to build the Arch and the second St. Louis Cardinal stadium. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local #42. He was raised in the Presbyterian Church and attended Catholic Mass with Margo, his daughter, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati. Lin never met a stranger and always loved to tell stories. He always enjoyed entertaining and cooking while visiting and telling many jokes. He was always adamant about keeping his kids on the straight and narrow path or keeping his “chicks in a row.” He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage and was always ready for a garage sale. He is survived by his two sons, Grayling Miles Clonts and wife Kathy of Mt. On July 20, 1949, Edith was married to Carl William Hardin. Carl preceded her in death in 1973. In June of 1974, she married Arnold Dunn who also preceded her in death in 2008. Courtney Ray Harris Courtney Ray Harris of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, September 13, 1922 at Cook Station, Missouri to Daniel W. and Dollie (nee Earls) Harris and passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 90 years. Courtney married Evelyn E. Tesreau at St. Louis, Missouri on June 26, 1943 and to this union three children were born. Courtney spent 25 years as a truck driver and retired in 1975 from Arkansas Best Motor Freight. After retirement he became a farmer for the next 14 years before moving in to town. He attended the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri and was a 52-year member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge #312. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years and gardening and puzzles in his later years. “Governor” as he was called by some of his friends always enjoyed visiting with everyone he ever met. He was known for his story telling and ability to make everyone laugh and smile. John was a member of the First Baptist Church. John was first united in marriage to Priscilla Doyle and to this union Christina was born. John then married Cathy Meese and to this union Adam was born. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Dean King; wife, Cathy (Meese) King and one brother-in-law, Bob Cummins. Menzo and Georgia Brooks (Burnett) Sooter and passed away Saturday June 29, 2013 at the age of 96 year,s 4 months and 16 days. Sylvia married Marvin E. Milk. Sylvia was called to the Lord’s work in 1945 when the Lord spoke to her She was filled with God’s Spirit, and she was healed from cancer. Sylvia was very happy to start her work in the Assembly of God Church at Kankakee, IL. She was a Sunday school teacher and children church leader along with her husband, who did janitor work. Sylvia was active in the Joliet prison ministry where she worked monthly. She also went to the hospital in Kankakee, Illinois, where she prayed for the sick. In 1950, Sylvia started a work in Bourbonnas Illinois, where she ministered to her neighbors.  Sylvia’s ministry grew. She rented a building, and later she and her husband decided to buy a church building to meet in. They named the building Pentecost Faith Church. They were licensed with Internal Gospel Assembly of God of Desoto, Mo.   In 1969 Mr. and Mrs. Milk were ordained. Sylvia was called to prison to give a man last rights before he was put to death in the electric chair. Sylvia was greatly touch by this and continued her work in the prison. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Menzo and Georgia Sooter; husband, Marvin in 1995; one son, Paul E. Milk, who passed away December 18, 1984; brothers, Wil, Edward, Dorsie, Paul Sooter and Charles Sooter; sisters, Ilene, Mildred, Betty and Billie. John served in the US Navy, was a member of the Kimberling City Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, Scottish Rite and the Kimberling City United Methodist Church. Danny was united in marriage to Dorothy Cook on April 9, 1961 at Ferguson, Missouri and to this union seven children were born. Danny worked for many years as a truck driver, retiring in 1984 from Cassens Transport in St. Louis, Missouri. He enjoyed country music, watching NASCAR races and he would drink coffee all day long. In his younger years he did small engine repairs, raced stock cars in Valley Park, rode motorcycles and would spend hours tinkering on things. He enjoyed ice cream with his grandchildren. Special music will be “Amazing Grace” by Jamie Shoemaker, “I Will See You Again” and “When I Get Where I’m Going.” Interment and prayers were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Praise Temple Memorial Gardens in Fredericktown, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Ivy S. Watson Ivy S. Watson of Salem Missouri was born January 15, 1948 in Pekin, Illinois to Toler and Ethel (White) Lutz, and passed away June 20, 2013 in St. James, Missouri at the age of 65 years, 5 months and 5 days. Ivy was united in marriage to Leonard Watson and to this union three sons were born. She had her own quilting business out of her house. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, camping, and swimming. Family gathering were very important to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Toler and Ethel Lutz; her husband, Leonard Watson; son, Casey Watson; brother, Norman Gene Lutz; sisters, Vera Mae Shults and Margie Hayes; and one infant brother. She is survived by her children, Steve Watson and wife Benita of Salem, Missouri and Chris Watson and wife Misty of St. James, Missouri; brothers, Dale Lutz of Vermont, Illinois, Charles Lutz of Industry, Illinois and Donald Lutz and wife Rosie of Vermont, Illinois; sisters, Beatrice Landrith and husband James of Pekin, Illinois and Eleanor Williammee of Rushville, Illinois; grand- children, Drew Hale and Derek Hale; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 2-4 p.m. at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Funeral service was held at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Ken Fiebelman officiating. Interment was in the Empire Cemetery in Gladden, Missouri.
