GRACE E. COWAN Grace Edith Cowan, daughter of Erastus P. and Mary E. (Essie) Lewis Alexander, was born on February 2, 1892. On October 1, 1911 she was united in marriage to Claude J. Cowan at Leasburg, Missouri and three children blessed this union, but sorrow entered her life soon when a daughter Alice passed away in 1929. In a few years following the passing of her daughter, the Cowans moved to St. Louis, Missouri and continued living there until Mr. Cowan's retirement. Upon his retirement the Cowans returned to Bourbon, Missouri, anxiously looking forward to happy days of retirement, but days of happiness once again turned to sorrow when Mr. Cowan Lost his health and he passed away on January 18, 1959. Being a true follower of Christ, and being fully aware that our days are not all happy days, she bore her afflictions with patience and continued daily serving her savior, knowing that at the end of her journey a crown of everlasting happiness would be her eternal reward. In the past few months Mrs. Cowan's health failed and death came to her at the Phelps County Hospital, Rolla, Missouri on Wednesday morning September 20, 1972. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter Mrs. Edna Johann of St. Louis, Missouri and her son and daughter-in-law Austin and Mildred Cowan of Cuba, Missouri. Surviving also are three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers Walter Alexander of Bourbon, Missouri and Clyde Alexander of Sullivan, Missouri and two sisters Mrs. Florence Sullens of Marionville, Mo. and Mrs. Alice Dauderman of Alhambra, Illinois. Other loved who remain are her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends who mourn the passing Grace Cowan who lived on earth 80 years, seven months and 18 days. Funeral services for Mrs. Cowan were at 1:00 Saturday September 23, 1972 from the First Baptist Church, Bourbon, Missouri, Reverend Oliver Mullen and Reverend Robret J. Eberle officiating. The favorite hymns "They are Gathering" and "God Shall Wipe Away All Tears" were in duet by Mrs. Pauline Ramstein and Mrs. Geraldine Mullen, with Mrs. Ramstein also providing the accompaniment. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. The loved ones and close friends who served as casket bearers were Danny Dauderman, Lawrence Korsmeyer, Frank Johann, Jim Cowan, Earl Burnett and Jess Hartung. Arrangements were under the care of the Hoener Funeral Home of Bourbon, Missouri where Mrs. Cowan has been in state until 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
