Harold W. Edgar Harold William Edgar, son of the late Pleas D. Edgar and Dora Gorman Edgar, was born on May 22, 1925 in Crawford County, Missouri and departed this life on September 27, 1972 at Sullivan, Missouri, having attained the age of 47 years, four months and five days. Harold, as he was known to his family and friends, was reared in the Steelville area where he graduated from Steelville High School and later attended SMS in Springfield, Missouri, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts and later received his Masters Degree from Missouri University at St. Louis, Missouri. He taught school in Mountain Grove, Missouri for two years, then moved to Sullivan, Missouri and taught Industrial Arts for eight years, was principal of the Consolidated School of Robertsville, Missouri for seven years, then returned to the Sullivan school system, where he served as principal of the Junior High School. He professed his faith in Christ while serving with the United States Coast Guard during World War 11, was baptized at the Steelville Baptist Church and was a member of the Temple Baptist Church of Sullivan, Missouri. He served as Treasurer of the Franklin County Baptist Association, was a director of the Franklin County Head Start Program, was Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon at Temple Baptist Church, past President of C.T.A., past member of Sullivan School Board, was a director and taught in the Sullivan Adult Basic Education Program and served his community and church in various capacities. Harold loved his family and his work with a deep devotion. His understanding spirit will continue to influence the many hundreds of boys, girls, and ... with whom he worked in the classroom, school and church. His courage and determination through difficulties, and prolonged illness, were an inspiration. He had a deep faith in the lord and continually drew strength form Him. He loved his church and appreciated the prayers and encouragement of his many friends. On October 7, 1945, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean Turner and to this union six children were born. Surviving him are his wife, Bonnie Jean Edgar, three sons, Harold (Bill) W. Edgar Jr. of Houston, Missouri, Benjamin Edgar and Bradley Edgar of the family home, three daughters, Mrs. Donna E. Border of Houston, Texas, Debra J. Edgar and Dennea Edgar of the family home, his mother, Mrs. Dora Edgar of Cooks Station, Missouri, father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Turner of Steelville, Missouri, three brothers, Elmer Edgar of St. Louis, Missouri, Cecil Edgar of St. James, Missouri, Reuben Edgar of Cooks Station, Missouri, three sisters, Beulah Roper and Bonnie Lea, both of Steelville, Missouri and Wanda Delcour of Sullivan, Missouri, two grandchildren, Charlotte and Jeffery Border, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and brother, Norma Jean and Leo Edgar. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, he will be sadly missed by his loved ones and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 1972 from the Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Maxted and Rev. Morris Brock officiating. Interment was in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek's Memorial Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
