Raymond A. Courtoway (1)Raymond A. Courtoway was born at Richwoods, Mo., on November 15, 1906(2) the son of the late Alfred Courtway and his wife, Margaret, nee Recar,(3) and passed away at the St. Francis Hospital in Washington, Mo., on Wednesday, May 2, 1973. Reaching the age of 66 years, 5 months and 17 days. He received his schooling in Richwoods, Mo., and grew to young manhood there. On August 12, 1929 he was united in marriage to Miss Corene Courtuise at Steelville, Mo. They made their home in the Richwoods community and fourteen children were born to this marriage. In 1962 the family came to Union, Mo., to live. Mr. Courtoway farmed and was employed at Steelweld Co. for a number of years, until his health forced him to retire. He was preceeded in death by two sons, Clarence J. in infancy and David H. at the age of two years. Also by a half brother, George Charboneau in 1941.(4)Those who survive are his wife, Corene Courtoway of Union, Mo. Five daughters, Mary Turntine of New York; Geraldine Briggs, Mildred Fox, Joyce Mc Kinney all of Union, Mo., and Lorna Revelle of Mineral Point, Mo. Seven sons, Joseph Courtway, Raymond Jr., William, Clyde, Lawrence and Michael all of Union, Mo., and Henry Courtoway of St. Clair, Mo. Twenty-nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Daughters-in-law, sons-in-law. One brother, Joseph Courtway of Richwood, Mo. Step Mother-in-law Mrs. Alice Courtuise of Sullivan, Mo. Sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, neices, nephews and other relatives and friends. After resting in state at the Oltmann Funeral home in Union, Mo., Funeral Services were held on Saturday, May 5, 1973 from the Richwoods Pentacostal Church at 2:00 P.M. by Maxine Randall. Interment followed in the Horene Cemetery at Richwoods, Mo. [Note: Retyped Dec 2005 by granddaughter, Tessie TURNTINE BYLUND, Orem, UT. Original spellings were retained. Co., MO, Ray was born on 5 Nov 1906. Ray was baptised there on 14 Feb 1911 under the name, Charles Andrew COURTOIS. (3) This should read "...Margaret nee RULO." Margaret married: 1st Alfred COURTOIS, & 2nd Valle CHARBONEAU. Margaret's mother married Tropy RECAR-perhaps the source of the error?(4) George Washington CHARBONEAU died (and/or was buried) in Manila, Philippine Islands, as a result of World War II on or about 25 Oct 1944.]
