JACOB E. CHAPMAN Jacob E. Chapman, formerly of Bourbon, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 15, 1983 at Washington County Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Wm. and Maud Stephens Chapman. At the age of 17 Mr. Chapman enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War I. After the was Mr. Chapman moved to St. Louis where he married the late Lora Gerth Chapman on Apirl 1, 1926. (Mrs. Chapman passed away March 5, 1982.) Mr. and Mrs. Chapman returned to his childhood home in Bourbon and operated his second barbershop. “Jake” served as mayor of Bourbon in 1965 and as Alderman in 1966. Jake was manager of little league ball teams and was active in Boy Scouts. He accepted Jesus as his savior and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Sullivan, Mo. He served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was a charter member of American Legion, Post #81 of Bourbon. Survivors include cousins, Mrs. Adola Branstetter and Mrs. Lloyd Hellums, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Gerth of Sullivan; another sister-in-law, Mrs. Ellen Johnson of Durant, Oklahoma and a niece, Mrs. Vera Schlafer of Sullivan, Mo. Jake moved to Potosi, Mo., October 1982 and made his home with the Marvin Bozarth family. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 17, 1983 from the Eaton Chapel, Bourton, Mo., with Bro. Wm. E. Norris officiating. Bearers were Earl Burnett, Reid Stephens, Earl Baldwin, Ed Hardy, Glen Ruble, and Don Baker. Interment was in Gerth Cemetery. Bourbon, Mo. Route.
