CLENT COTTRELL Clent Cottrell was born January 16, 1921 in Livingston, Montana and passed away suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday, November 1, 1983 in a hunting camp near Gunnison, Colorado at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 15 days. Clent was born to the union of Ralph D. and Bertha (Bowers) Cottrell. His father preceded him in death in 1970 and his mother in 1972. On July 7, 1945 he was united in marriage with Katie Elizabeth Cox in Englewood, California. To this union two children were born; Ralph Dennis Cottrell of Cherryville and Janet Faye Wells also of Cherryville. Clent and Katie moved back to Cherryville in 1945 and began helping in the operation of the Bowers and Cottrell General Stores and farm. He was appointed Postmaster of the Cherryville Post Office in 1956, and held that position at the time of his death. Clent served in the United States Navy on Johnson Island during World War II. He loved his country and often spike of his service years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #601 at Davisville, Missouri. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior many years ago during a revival at the Cherryville Baptist Church. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Katie of their home in Cherryville; his son Dennis of Cherryville; his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and David Wells; and his two grandchildren, Kayellen Faye and Clent Howard Wells, all of Cherryville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Hubert Langely of Kingman, Kansas and Bonnie and Leroy Britton of Granite City, Illinois; his aunt, Mrs. Eugenia Bowers of Steelville; many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends who loved him very much and will sadly miss him. Funeral Services were conducted 2 P.M. Saturday, November 5, 1983 in the Britton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Charles Likely officiating and Rev. James Chilton assisting. Interment was in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville, Missosuri. Pallbearers were Ed Casebolt, Bill Lee Norman Eaton, Bud Caringer, Raymond Munton and Jim Cottrell. All arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
