CHARLES EDWARD SUMMERS Charlie Edward Summers, the oldest of ten children, was born to William H. and Elizabeth Cash Summers on December 28, 1900 at Anthonies Mill, Mo. and departed this life on Wednesday, February 1, 1984 in the Washington County Memorial Hospital at the age of eight-three years, one month, and four days. In 1923 Charlie was united in marriage to Viola Bouse and five children were born to this union; three of whom survive, Mamie Lee, Pauline, and Monroe. In 1932 his wife and twins preceded him in death. In 1943 Charlie was united in marriage to the former Opal Elnora Dace and four children were born to his union; Charles E., Jr., Naomi Jane Slack of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Phyllis Love of New Marshfield, Ohio and Virginia Ruth Case of Rock Springs, Wyoming. In addition to his mentioned children those who remain to mourn his death include one brother Walter Summers of Cuba; four sisters, Evelyn Hamer of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; Dolie Ray of Sta. Louis; Virginia Smith of Sullivan and Mildred Mulvihill of Santa Ana, California; twenty grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one uncle, Jess Cash of Sullivan; one aunt, Lennie Pohlman of Kirkwood; and a host of other relatives and friends. Those preceding Charlie in death in addition to his first wife and the twins were his parents; two brothers, Rolla Summers and Millard “Bud” Summers; and two sisters, Viola Summers and Maxine Gott. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 4, 1984, 2 P.M. at the Gum and Son Chapel, Potosi, with Willard Love officiating, assisted by Bob Slack. Interment was in the Berryman Cemetery under the direction of Gum and Son Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Pete Bailey, John Parry, Ethan Dace, Bill Slowensky, Claude W. Harris, and Dick McInnis. Honorary pallbearers were Hubert Wright, Ray Slowensky and John Eaton.
