EDWARD JESSIE BROOKS Edward Jessie Brooks was born March 4, 1922, at Caledonia, Missouri, a son of the late Thomas and Ellen Elizabeth (Wilson) Brooks, and entered eternal life, August 2, 1993, at his home near Cherryville Mo., at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 28 days. Ed served his country in the United States Army, enlisting September 25, 1942 and honorably discharged November 9, 1946. During this time he served with distinction, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Luzon Island Campaign Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, American Theatre Service Ribbon and a Purple Heart. On April 25, 1945, at Union, Mo., Ed was united in marriage to Ellie Annie Margaret Head. This union was blessed with seven sons and three daughters. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sara Merrit and an infant sister and six brothers, Roy, Oril, Harry, Danny, Arthur and Herbie Brooks. Ed recently accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Ellie of the home; seven sons and three daughters, Jessie and husband Edward Ziegler of Lonedell, Mo.; Diana Bocardo of Cherryville, Mo.; Bettie and husband Ronald Pyatt of Davisville, Mo.; Thomas Brooks and wife Sue of Kennett, Mo.; Larry Brooks and wife Tammie of Walnut, Miss.; Barry Brooks and wife Angie of Bixby, Mo.; Bobby Brooks and wife Leona of Cherryville, Mo.; John Brooks, Kelly Brooks and Darla, all of Kennett, Mo. and Ronnie Brooks and wife Debbie of Cherryville, Mo., twenty-six grandchildren, thirteen great grand- children; two sisters, Lena Powell of Perryville, Mo. and Betty and husband Stanley Neal of Bland, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Opal Brooks of Perryville, Mo. and Lucille Washburn of Union, Mo. and brother-in-law, Dale Head of Salem, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edward Jessie Brooks lay in state after 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 4, 1993, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Thursday, August 5, 1993, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Harrison Brown and Rev. Robert Coleman officiating. Inspirational music was provided by vocalists, Darla Brooks, Jody Brown and Carol Coleman, with Shirley Brown pianist and Larry Brooks guitarist. Committal prayers and interment were in Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, Mo. Honoring their grandfather as pallbearers were Adam, Bobby Jr., Eddie, Jason, Johnny, Josh, Shawn and Timmy Brooks and Stephen Pyatt.
