REV. T. A. ‘JOE’ GREEN Rev. Thurman Arthur ‘Joe’ Green was born May 8, 1932, at Cherryville, Missouri, the youngest of nine children, of the late Irvin Preston and Rosa Bell (Harris) Green. Joe entered eternal life September 26, 1994 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 62 years, 4 months and 18 days. He grew up in Cherryville. He attended North Central Bible School at Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated in 1961. He pastored several Assembly of God churches in Minnesota and Missouri. He had lived in Mountain Grove, Missouri for the past fifteen years. December 20, 1953, at the Assembly of God Church in Bourbon, Missouri, Rev. C. W. McAnulty united Joe in marriage to Ina Lucille Dickens. One son was born to this union. She preceded him in death, September 26, 1974. On February 11, 1981, at Mtn. Grove, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Lavonda Boykin. They have enjoyed over twelve years together. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, 1952 to 1954. Also preceded him in death were six brothers, Thomas Harry, Preston, Delmar, John Edward, Floyd Dwight and Clyde Daniel Green and two sisters, Della Hewkins and Wilma Hines. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Lavonda, of their home; three sons, Rev. David Green and wife Brenda of Grinnell, Iowa; Jammie Green and Aaron Smith of Mt. Grove, Missouri; three grandchildren, Stephen, Sam and Sarah Green of Grinnell, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Geneva (Mrs. Clyde) Green of Cherryville, Missouri; Marie (Mrs. Delmar) Green of Steelville, Missouri; Jimmy Hines of Illinois; Buck Boykin of Hurley, Missouri; Mike and Brenda Boykin and Roger Boykin, all of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss him very much. Thurman Joe Green lay in state 7-8 P.M. Tuesday, September 27, 1994 at the Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri and after 3 P.M. Wednesday, September 28, 1994, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 10 A.M. Thursday, September 29, 1994, at the Center Ridge Church, Cherryville, Missouri with Rev. Derrel Friend officiating. Musical selections were provided by Rev. Derrel Friend, Rev. Robert and Carol Coleman, with pianist Shirley Brown. Committal prayers and interment were in Davisville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Cordell Green, Dan Green, Dwight Green, Lindell Green, Clinton Hewkin and LeRoy Tidwell. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville.
