Willard Harland Hartung, son of the late Adolph H. and Ida Mae Griffith Hartung was born on April 10, 1915 in Pendleton, Missouri and departed this life on February 19, 1994 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, having attained the age of 78 years, 10 months and 9 days. Jess, as he was known to his family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Bourbon, where he was a truck driver for August Hartung Trucking Company. On September 4, 1937, he was united in marriage to Oma Virginia Richardson who preceded him in death on December 28, 1991. Surviving him are: a daughter, Joan Summers and husband Bobby of Bourbon; five sons, Willard Hartung and wife Barbara of Ballwin, Ernest Hartung and wife Angela of Bourbon, Fred Hartung and wife Ruth of Sullivan, Martin Hartung of Bourbon, Paul Hartung and wife Judy of Warrenton; three sisters, Francis Springer of St. James, Celesta Carr and Laverne Bennett, both of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Besides those previously mentioned, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. A kind and loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 1994 from Hassebroek's Bourbon Chapel, with Rev. Chris McCutchen officiating. Interment was in the Cherryvalley Cemetery, Steelville. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek's Bourbon Chapel.
