REV, J.R. IVIE Rev. J.R. Ivie was born May 20, 1926, at Shell City, Missouri, a son of the late Rev. Jesse Jefferson Ivie and Rena F. Fowler Ivie and entered eternal life June 5, 1994, at his home in Houston, Missouri, at the age of 68 years and 15 days. On June 8, 1946, at Steelville, Missouri, J.R. was united in marriage to Wilma E. Litty and to this union two sons and five daughters were born. They enjoyed serving the Lord together as he pastored churches at Davisville, Caledonia, Alton, Viburnum, Ava and Houston, for over forty years. He served his Nation honorably in the United States Navy during World Was II, enlisting May 2, 1944. He saw duty aboard the Destroyer LCS- L40 and was involved in the invasion of Okinawa, where he earned the American Area Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal with two Stars. He was honorably discharged on February 25, 1946. Hospice Care was a great help during the time of illness preceding his death. Fern White and Dan Harvey were with him and his family many nights, right up to the moment of his passing. J.R. was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, and also two grandchildren, Shanna Marie Ivie and Angela Ivie. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his two sons, Ricky J. Ivie and wife Gabriele of Kempner, Texas and Tommie Gene Ivie and wife Marie of Springfield, Missouri; five daughters, Carol Delores Brown and husband Dan of St. Ann, Missouri; Joan Marie Ivie; Rosemary Ivie and Glenda Faye Jones and husband Jimmy all of Houston, Missouri and Letha Jeanette Cook and husband Greg of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; one sister, Hazel Hutson and husband Roy of Steelville, Missouri; four brothers, Rev. Marvin Ivie and wife Betty and A.B. Ivie, all of cuba, Missouri; Calvin Ivie and wife Judy of Phoenix, Arizona, Billy Joe Ivie and wife Brenda of Maryland Heights, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in- law, Charlotte and Oliver Licklider of Steelville, Missouri, Mable and Virgil Brandon of Tucson, Arizona; his present wife Mary Ivie of Davisville, Missouri; three step-sons and three step-daughters, Wayne and Pam O'Neail of Cuba, Missouri; Bonnie and Steve Callahan of Davisville, Missouri and Everett and Vickie O'Neail, Larry and Paula O'Neail, all of Bonne Terre, Missouri; Louise and Kevin Brown of Steelville, Missouri and Diane O'Neail of the home; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren; one great granddaughter, three step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Rev. J.R. Ivie lay in state after 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 1994, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 1994, at the Davisville Assembly of God Church with Rev. Nelson Sachs and Rev. Kenneth Brown officiating. Beautiful traditional hymns were provided by his daughters, Carol, Joan, Rosemary, Glenda and Letha, accompanied on the piano by Letha. Committal prayers and interment were in Davisville Cemetery. Graveside military honors were provided by the playing of taps at the gravesite. Pallbearers were A.B. Ivie, Billy Ivie, Calvin Ivie, Marvin Ivie, Danny Brown and Richard Battreal. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelvillle, Missouri.
