Olive Mae Kitchen of Leasburg passed away Monday, May 23, 1994 at St. Luke's Hospital, West, in Chesterfield, Missouri, at the age of 91 years. Mrs. Kitchen was born September 28, 1902 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Henry Elliott and Mary Theresa (La Plante) Watson. She had made her home there in the early years of her life and later made her home in California and Colorado. On November 24, 1922, she was married to Herman W. Kitchen in Wellsburg, West Virginia, and to this marriage ten children were born of which one son, Kenneth Eugene, and one daughter, Irene Faye preceded them in death. Mrs. Kitchen taught Sunday School in Colorado Springs, and at one time was the oldest Sunday School teacher in the state of Colorado. During the Vietnam War, she sent numerous boxes of cookies and other gifts to the troops for which she later received a plaque from the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, "TigerBravo" Unit in recognition of her love and service to the troops. She later attended the weddings of several of the troops when they returned home. From 1964 to 1972 she was employed as a House Parent to the Jewish Children's Home in San Francisco. During that era, she was appointed by the San Francisco Southern Baptist Association to work with the International College and University as a host for students in her home on holidays and other special occasions. At one time, Mrs. Kitchen hosted a Vietnamese refugee in her home for approximately two years while this student completed her studies. She was active in her church work and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, Missouri. Mrs. Kitchen was also a member of Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star, Cuba Chapter #398. She is survived by four sons, Herman Kitchen and wife, Nellie of New York, New York, Russell and wife, Audrey of Jackson, Missouri, Mel and wife, Nancy of Belle, and J. Dale Kitchen and wife, Mary Dee of St. Louis, four daughters; Olive Mae Crowder of Bourbon, Jeanne Kitchen of Salida, Colorado, Cora Ludwig of Jackson, Missouri, and Marjory Butler of Austin, Texas, 21 grandhildren, 27 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Kitchen was also preceded in death by her husband in 1949. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 1994 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with pastor Oliver Mullen officiating. Interment was in Lick Creek Cemetery, Cuba.
