Ray E. Mackney of Bourbon passed away at his home Tuesday, May 3, 1994 at the age of 70 years. Mr. Mackney was born November 13, 1923 at Crocker, MO to the late Luther and Bertha (Burks) Mackney. He was raised in the rural area near Crocker and had graduated high school there. He honorably served his country during W.W.II with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Mr. Mackney was involved in three different assault landings in the infantry and was wounded twice in action. He received a Purple Heart for his valor along with two bronze stars and Oak Leaf cluster. After the war, he came home to Missouri where he worked for a time in Jefferson City as a guard at Algola State prison. On January 12, 1946, he was married to Bertha Halfaker at Doolittle, MO and to this marriage two daughters were born. Mr. Mackney made his home in Bourbon since 1947 and had been employed in various jobs, the most recent being a mill operator at Pea Ridge Iron Mine since 1967. Ray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bourbon. He is survived by his wife Bertha of Bourbon, two daughters Beverly Hall and husband Kenny and Betty Lassley all of Ozark, MO, two brothers Clarence Mackney of Richland, MO and Ralph Mackney of Okee Chiobee, Florida, five grandchildren, Amy Stanton, Kevin and Brian Lassley, Jennifer Davis and Christie Hall, other relatives and friends.
