DOROTHY MAE SMITH Dorothy Mae Smith was born September 24, 1898, at Chicago, Illinois, to the union of Henry and Rose (Sanders) Durkop and passed away January 6, 1994, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 12 days at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri. Dorothy was united in marriage to William Gustus Smith on March 21, 19223 at Richland, Missouri. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Willy Sydnor, and one granddaughter, Arleen Smith. She was a member of Huzzah Baptist Church. Among those remaining to mourn her passing are her two sons and one daughter, Kenneth Smith and wife Roselean of St. James, Missouri; Marjorie Smith, of New York, New York and Paul Smith and wife Oma Lee of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters Edith Dyk and husband Mike of Chicago, Illinois, and Hazel Baker and husband Fred of Butte, Montana; six grandchildren, Gary Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; Myrna McDonough of Rolla, Missouri; Mike Smith and Jeanne Smith both of Steelville, Missouri; Stephen Smith of Cherryville, Missouri and Rita Neff of Nixa, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Kevin McDonough and Matthew McDonough, Crystal Leigh Smith, Chris Neff, Timothy Neff, Ashley Smith and Matthew Smith; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Dorothy Mae Smith lay in state after 5 P.M. Friday, January 7, 1994, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Saturday, January 8, 1994, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. James Chilton officiating. Musical selections were beautifully provided by Shirley Brown pianist and vocalists Rev. and Mrs. Robert Coleman. Committal prayers and interment were in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Pallbearers were Harold Green, Doyle Neff, Gary Smith, Kevin Smith, Mike Smith and Stephen Smith. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
