DR. GEO. D. VINEYARD Dr. George Delmar Vineyard was born, October 3, 1911, at Benton, Tennessee, a son of the late William Samuel and Betty (West) Vineyard and entered eternal life, August 3, 1994, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 82 years and 10 months. Dr. Vineyard attended grade school in Benton, Tennessee. He always wanted to be a dentist and in order for him to attend high school he moved to Groveport, Ohio and lived with his sister. After serving a year in the U.S. Navy he enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and then attended the Tennessee Dental School at Memphis, graduating in 1938. He practiced dentistry at Fayette, Missouri. He was recalled to the Navy, as a Lieutenant, in 1939 and served in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. He was honorably discharged December 1942. He resumed his dental practice briefly in Columbia, Missouri, while he looked for a new practice. Through a dental lab in St. Louis he relocated to Steelville on May 12, 1942. He said he was “the luckiest person on earth, to have found Steelville as the home for his family and to practice dentistry for thirty-nine years.” He was a member of First Baptist Church, a life member of the American Dental Association and the St. Louis Dental Society, serving as board member for three terms. He was a Boy Scout leader and an original member of the Booster Club, which later became the Steelville Chamber of Commerce. He had a full and rewarding life, had a hole in one on the golf course, landed two sailfish and a nine pound bass. He loved to fish, hunt, garden and was an avid fan of any sport. He was lovingly and affectionally called “Sport” by his family and close friends. Dr. Vineyard was a devoted husband and father. No grandfather could love his grandchildren more than “Sport”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Frank and two brothers, Howard and Kelly Vineyard. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Rose Vineyard, and his loving daughter, Diane and husband Dan Cape, all of Steelville, Missouri; one grand-daughter, Deidre Cape of Steelville, Missouri; one grandson David Cape of Gainsville, Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and colleagues.
