Bertha E. west of Potosi, Missouri, formerly of Leasburg, passed away Thursday, October 27, 1994 at the age of 84 years. Mrs. West was born February 14, 1910 near Scotia, Missouri to the late Fred and Vergie (Angle) Bryan. She had lived the majority of her life in the Leasburg area and was employed for a time at Onondaga Cave as a cook in the restaurant. She later was employed as a cashier at Casey's store in Bourbon for nearly 25 years. On November 20, 1929 she was married to Bert West at Steelville, Missouri. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Leasburg where she was baptized on July 15, 1932. Bertha was a loving mother and wife and will long be remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Bert H. West of Potosi, five sons, George Halbert of St. Clair, Bert West Jr. of Sullivan, Earl West of Las Vegas, Nevada John West of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ronald West of Fenton, four daughters, Lorne Protte of Bourbon, Lavell Smith of Bixby, Missouri, Jean Thompson of Potosi, and June Peters of Sullivan, two brothers, Bill Bryan of Rolla, and Ed Bryan of Ballwin, Missouri, one sister, Marie Lincoln of Maplewood, Missouri, 39 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. West was preceded in death by one son, Fred Halbert, one daughter in infancy, three brothers, Al, Junior, and George Bryan, and two sisters, Irene Reed and Annie West. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 1994 from the First Baptist Church of Leasburg with Rev. Oliver Mullen officiating. Interment was in Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Chapel, Bourbon, Missouri.
