This Isaac Givens was a brother to Merrit Givens of Daviess Co., Mo. These names get confusing because each brother named a son after the other brother--so we have several Isaac Givens and several Merrit Givens of the same family in 2 to 3 generations. This Merrit Givens was living in Worth Co., Mo. when he enlisted in the Civil War. Because he was so young, he served as a water boy for the soldiers. He served 5 mos. from March 15, 1865 to Aug. 31, 1865. He served at Benton Barracks, Missouri and was honorably discharged due to disentary. Merrit lived in Gentry, and Worth Co., Mo. and McPherson Co., Ks. This Merrit is buried at the Eastside Cem. in Hutchison, Ks. His wife was named Nancy too--Nancy Elizabeth O'Neal. There is also a Civil War pension record for them at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
