We cannot be sure which one this was. It could be either John Splawn, born circa 1783 and died 1 March 1837 Daviess Co., Mo. who married Eleanor Leighton or his son John Splawn, born circa 1810 and died 1848 in Holt Co., Mo. who married Nancy McHaney who according to their birthdates are the logical ones. The other John Splawns were born much later and would not have been old enough to fight in the Black Hawk War.
