Biographical Sketch of Joseph H. Jadwin, Dent County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Joseph H. Jadwin, farmer and merchant of Texas township, was born in Texas county, Mo., in 1852, being a son of Valentine and Nancy (McDonald) Jadwin, who were born in Tennessee in 1830 and 1831, respectively. The former was of Dutch lineage, a farmer by occupation and about 1833 emigrated with his parents from Tennessee to Missouri, locating in Texas county, but his death occurred in Dent county, in June, 1887. His widow is still living, and resides on her farm about ten miles south of Salem. Joseph H. Jadwin is the eldest of eight children, and made his home with his parents until his marriage. He attended the country schools until nineteen years of age, and then attended the high school of Salem for about two years. He taught his first term of school when nineteen years of age, and continued that occupation in Dent, Texas, Howell and Shannon counties for thirteen years. On the 14th of October, 1879, he was married to Miss Emeline Jack, who was born in Dent county, Missouri, in 1863, being a daughter of James and Susan Jack, both of whom were of Dutch origin, and natives of Tennessee. The former died in 1882, but the latter is still living. Mr. and Mrs. Jadwin are the parents of one child. The first two years of their marriage they resided on a farm on Dry Fork, and then moved to Gladdin Valley, where he was engaged in farming and general merchandis- ing for six years, doing a good paying business. He has a well improv- ed farm of 160 acres, on which are erected a good residence and commodious and substantial out buildings.
