Pemberton, farmer and merchant of Stone Hill, Mo., is a native of Wilson County, Tenn., born in 1821. His father, Richard Pemberton, was born in Virginia about 1793, and resided in his native State until his removal to Tennessee, where he met and married Miss Nancy Glasby, who was born in that State about 1808. Subsequently they moved to Saline County, Ill., where they spent the remainder of their days, dy- ing in 1881 and 1874, respectively. Ten of their twelve children grew to maturity, Jesse B. being the third child. He resided under the paternal roof until he attained his majority, and was then married to Miss Mary Womack, a native of North Carolina, born in 1817. She was a daughter of William and Abigail Womack, and became the mother of six children, five of whom are living: Levi T., Eliza J. (wife of George Harrison), J. Brown, John W. and Martha A. (wife of Thomas McGee). The mother of these children died in 1875, and the following year Mr. Pemberton espoused Miss Ruthie S. Young, a daughter of Green D. and Mary Young, born in Illinois in 1833. He has a good farm of 203 acres on which he has resided since 1866, and has seventy acres under culti- vation. The farm is well supplied with good running water, and is provided with good buildings and a good bearing orchard. In 1875 Stone Hill post office was established, and he was appointed postmaster, which position he has held up to the present time. In 1884 he opened a general store on a small scale, but his efforts in this line have met with such good success that he now does an annual business of $4,000. He is a strong Prohibitionist, and has held the office of justice of the peace of Dent county ten years, and is a Royal Arch Mason. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
