Ruby Jewel Powell, 93, of Paragould, Arkansas died Feb. 24, 2008, in Baytown Texas. She was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Senath, MO. She grew up in Arkansas and was a homemaker and farmer. Wylie and Ruby spent most of their life in Paragould, AR (Greene County), where they farmed and also worked as barbers. They moved to Highlands, TX in 1966 to be closer to their grandchildren and opened barber shops on Sheldon Rd. and Market St. They later moved back to Paragould, AR until their senior years, when they returned to Highlands. Ruby attended Northside Baptist Church, 317 Barbers Hill Rd., Highlands, TX 77562. Ruby was always heard singing old songs from her childhood, which she sang to us when we were young. She enjoyed canning, gardening, and even doing occasional carpenter work. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered as a kindhearted woman that liked to pull the occasional prank on the kids from time to time. Her family holds these memories close to their heart. ******* For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. -1 Thessalonians 5:9-10; The Bible. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. -2 Corinthians 5:8; The Bible. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” -John 11:25; The Bible. -from Funeral Bulletin for Ruby Powell.
