From 1865 until 1869 he was surveyor and civil engineer of Franklin County, and in the latter year he established the Washington Post (German), and was editor and publisher until his death, which occurred in February, 1883. His wife was born in Bohe- mia, about 1832, and died in 1863. She was the mother of three children, who lived to be grown. Our subject was the eldest of these children, and was educated in the schools of Washington. At the age of eleven he entered the printing office of the Post, and has since been in the business.
