Biographical Sketch of William Meyersieck, Franklin County, Missouri >From "History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and Gasconade Counties", Biographical Appendix, Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1888. ********************************************************************** William Meyersieck, proprietor of the Union Livery Stable, was born three miles south of Union, in Franklin County, Mo., August 21, 1839, the son of L. L. and Josepha (Anz) Meyersieck, both of whom were na- tives of Prussia. They emigrated to the United States in 1832, and settled in Franklin County, Mo., where the father followed farming. He died in 1861, and the mother in 1867. William attained his major- ity on the farm and secured a fair education in the schools of the county. He enlisted in the Federal army in the spring of 1861, being one of the first to volunteer in Franklin County, under President Lincoln's call for three months' soldiers. At the expiration of the first three months Mr. Meyersieck re-enlisted for three years, being a member of Company F, Twenty-sixth Regiment of Missouri Infantry. He was discharged in the fall of 1862 on account of physical dis- ability, and returned home. January 10, 1863 he married Catharine Hartman, who was born in Prussia. To this marriage seven children have been born, five of whom are now living. Our subject followed farming until October 1, 1885 when he removed to Union, and at about the same time took charge of the livery stable. In the fall of 1877 he was elected public administrator of Franklin County, and held the office for six years. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
