Edward D. Worrell convicted of the murder of Major Basil H. Gordon, was executed at Union, in Franklin County, on Friday last. There was a large concourse present, the father and mother of the condemned man among them. His parents were perfectly convulsed with agony of feeling, and sought relief in floods of tears. At the foot of the ladder he took leave of them and was tenderly embraced by them. On mounting the scaffold he bowed to the multitude, and bade them goodbye, after which the noose was adjusted by the Sheriff, and at precisely twenty minutes past three o’clock the drop fell, and the prisoner was launched into eternity. Additional Comments: Edward was an Army Deserter and was at the age of his death 28. Deathpenaltyusa lists St. Louis City, probably where the murder took place but the article indicates he was in Franklin County at execution. This is the 33rd execution since 1810 in Missouri. Public domain, the article was written 168 years ago.
