Thursday January 16, 1924 – The Sullivan News

Ben F. Short
Born in Franklin County Mo March 1, 1811 Died St. Clair January 8, 1924 at the 
age of 82 years 10 months 7 days.  He served three years in the union army.  
1865 he married Amanda Campbell who died July 10, 1910.  Eleven children were 
born to this union, five of whom survive, Henry, Louis, and Jess.  Mrs. Sarah 
Flora and Mrs. Ida Williams also two step sons, Charles and Robert Brockman 
and one step daughter Mrs. Jesse Short.  In 1912 Mr. Short married Mrs. 
Brockman of Sullivan who survives him.  The funeral was preached in the 
Methodist Church of St. Clair January 10 by Rev. B. S. Hutton of Sullivan.  
Truly it can be said a true soldier of the cross has gone to rest.
