Biographical Sketch of William F. Leweke, Gasconade County, Missouri >From "History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and Gasconade Counties", Biographical Appendix, Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1888. ********************************************************************** William F. Leweke, a native of Lippe-Detmold, Germany, in 1838, and when nine years of age came to this country, where he was reared, and where he has followed the occupation of a farmer. In 1859 he married Miss Louise Meyer, who was born in Prussia, in 1838, and who came to this country when a little girl. Eleven children were the result of this union, eight of whom are now living, three sons and five daugh- ters. Mr. Leweke is a Republican in politics, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He owns a fine farm of 320 acres, and for forty-one years has been a resident of this county. His parents, Christopher and Louise (Redeker) Leweke, were residents of the same place as himself, were there married and reared a family of four children. In 1847 they came to America and located in this county. Both were members of the Evangelical Church, and the father was a Republican in politics. He was a stone mason by trade, and a number of the houses still stand as monuments of his workmanship in this county.
