Biographical Sketch of Charles O. Patton, Gentry County, Missouri >From "History of Gentry and Worth Counties", Biographical Sketches of the Bench and Bar, St. Joseph, Mo.: National Historical Company, 1882. ********************************************************************** Charles O. Patton, the son of H. L. W. and Sarah A. Patton, was born May 4, 1842, near the town of Gentryville, in Gentry County, Missouri. He received his education in the common schools of his county. In the spring of 1867, he commenced the study of the law with Colonel Comstock of Albany, and afterwards the Michigan University at Ann Arbor, where he was graduated in the law department of that school, March 31, 1869. In October, 1869, he began the practice of his profession in Albany, the seat of justice of his native county, where he has constantly pur- sued his profession. He formed a law partnership with Major David Cranor in August, 1875 which exists at the present time, (1882). Prior to 1873 he served as the attorney for the city of Albany, and in 1872 he was by appointment of the County Court, County Attorney for Gentry County. From December 15, 1873 to January 1, 1879, he was postmaster at Albany. November 5, 1878, he was elected to the office of prosecu- ting attorney for the county, for a term of two years. In 1881, he was again appointed city attorney, which position he now holds. In the various official positions held by him, he has served the people with great fidelity, and administered his duties in a fair and impartial manner. As a public prosecutor he was careful and industrious, the records showing the number of his convictions to have been greater than those of any of his predecessors for the same length of time. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
