THE BERLIN CEMETERY History, Berlin, Gentry Co., MO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Submitted July 4, 2005 for use in the USGenWeb Tombstone Project by Linda Ferguson Copyright - All Rights Reserved ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Berlin Cemetery was established by the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in 1887. It was plotted on three acres of land purchased from James and Louisa Howrey and located one-half mile south of Berlin. The first trustees were Joseph Rainey, J. M. Campbell, and G. D. Taylor. The Cemetery remained under the ownership and care of the church until 1962 when it was incorporated under an endowment-perpetual care plan and the deed was transferred from the church to the corporation. Trustees at the time of incorporation were Carl Berry, Wilbur L. Ferguson, and Lawrence Owens. The listing posted here was first compiled by Wilbur L. and Dorothea Hardwick Ferguson in 1977, based on findings from old cemetery books, church records, and a lot-to-lot canvass of the cemetery. Location of lot numbers can be determined by referring to the map. Each grave is located within its numbered lot according to the direction shown. This list was comprehensively updated in 1998 by Wilbur, Linda C., and John H. Ferguson. It is now updated annually.
