All lots identified with an alpha letter ending are half lots (4 sites) The date of origin of this cemetery is not known to this compiler but the earliest identified date of burial is 1 July 1879 when Emma I. Brown died. A concrete marker in the center of the cemetery commemorates that L. G. Sweat and Fred Bernhard located High Ridge Cemetery in September 1882. The first reference found to it is in the abstracts of 3 Sep. 1883 when Levi G. & Alice L. Sweat sell property adjacent to it. Maggie Doughty received ownership of High Ridge at some point, owning it on 26 March 1904 when she sold a lot to Joe McHattie but sells High Ridge under warranty deed, except all lots and blocks heretofore sold, to Mesdames Callie D. Ross, Eva M. Pennington, Lula Williams, Sadie Collier, Katie Stubbins & Miss Emma Coffey, trustees, with succession to the survivor or survivors; dated 19 Dec. 1911. They incorporated under the name of Mothers Union and on 26 Feb. 1916, under warranty deed, purchased the Eastern Addition to High Ridge and recorded the plat thereof. Mother's Union later donated all property and equipment to the City of Stanberry on 6 Sep. 1943. High Ridge is located in the NW1/4 of the NE1/4 of Sec. 31, Twp. 63, Rng 32 of Gentry County Missouri. Land records at Albany Courthouse show the land to originally be patented from the USA to a Henry Stansberry & wife Dec. 1859, containing 80 acres, but entry #11 shows the following under certificate #21.008. dated 2 April 1857 at the District Lands subject to sale at Plattsburg, Missouri, from USA to John Lilly, the NW1/4 of NE1/4 of Sec. 31, Twp 63, Rng 32, containing 40 acres, referred to as cash certificate #21008. Under Bureau Of Land Management records, Henry Stansberry never owned this land, but was recorded to John P. Lilly in 1857 as stated. The land is sold to Levi Sweat 10 May 1881, which included the burial ground already being used for burials. Cemetery listing in alphabetical order by surname. Recompiled & updated (2005) with the addition of block & lot locations, corrections to family ties, name spelling, dates, grave location, using census records, newspaper obituaries and other resources. I know there will still be errors and I apologize for that. There are many unknown burials in High Ridge because records were not adequately kept or were lost. After the cemetery listing are some additional notations concerning the cemetery and after that is a list of names of people recorded for one reason or another in the early cemetery records. It may be for maintenance of a lot, purchase of a lot, or some other reason, but many of these names do not appear in any other cemetery records and are therefore of genealogical interest. The following block, lot, section and grave sites are based on a combination of walking the cemetery and measuring to determine the correct location of the stone as well as using the cemetery records. The location given may not always agree with the cemetery paper records but one has to presume a person is buried where their stone is placed. Voided Cemetery Deeds 290. was sold to Jerry Jones, 0.7 lot 9H 1/2 lot, 7 May 1962. Burial Card file identified as extra information. Block 5 Additional location. Lot 7 SW1/4 S. grave, marker broken.
