Adams, 79, a well known Stanberry citizen, was found dead at his home at about 5:20 oclock last Saturday afternoon and Mrs. Adams was found in a dazed condition by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Earl Lawson. Neither Mr. Adams nor Mrs. Adams had been in very good health and Mr. Lawson tried to visit them each day. He had gone to the Adams home about 5 o'clock last Saturday afternoon. He could not rouse anyone and the doors were locked. Lewis Messner had a key to the garage at the home and Mr. and Mrs. Lawson entered the garage, then broke the screen door to enter the house. Both Mr. and Mrs. Adams were in their night clothes, Mr. Adams in the hall of their home and Mrs. Adams in the living room. Dr. A. L. Carlin was called at once. It was his opinion that Mr. Adams had been dead for several hours. Mrs. Adams was taken in the community ambulance to the Gentry County Memorial hospital at Albany. It is believed she may have suffered a light stroke. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel for Mr. Adams. The rites were conducted by the Rev. George Meyer, pastor of the Stanberry United Methodist church, and burial was in High Ridge Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eula Lawson Adams, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Lovett, Rolla, Mo., and Mrs. Paul Hutton of Columbus, Ohio; a stepson, Charles Lawson of Stanberry; and two step grandchildren. He also is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Velma Adams Yeager of Agency, Ia., Mrs. Helen Hutton Beach of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Harriet Love Beach of Bay Village, Ohio. Mr. Adams, son of the late John Scott and Sarah Frances Compton Adams, was born August 10, 1892, on a farm near Stanberry. He was educated in schools in this community and as a young man joined the Pattonsburg Methodist church. He and the former Miss Ruth Jane Cameron were united in marriage February 25, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo., and spent their married life in this community. She preceded him in death May 25, 1968. He and Mrs. Lawson were married March 10, 1969, and continued to make their home here. For many, many years, Mr. Adams, a master plumber, was associated with the Big 4 Hardware firm here. Before his retirement approximately 18 years ago, he was happy to teach many young men his trade. In his younger days, Mr. Adams was exceedingly interested in civic and community affairs in Stanberry and served as mayor of this city for four terms in the late 30's and early 40's.
