All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight, Thursday, February 8, 1951, page 8: Double Funeral held on Thursday for Bailey family: Mrs. Charlotte May Bailey dies before entering church to attend husband's rites: A double funeral service was held last Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Christian church here for Mr. and Mrs. George Bailey. Rites for Mr. Bailey, who died Sunday of last week, were originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. However, Mrs. Bailey died at about 2:28 o'clock as she was entering the church to attend the services. The double service was conducted by the Rev. Charles R. Hagee, pastor of the church. The Rev. J. Frederick Lawson, pastor of the First Methodist church here, assisted at the rites. Burial for Mr. and Mrs. Bailey was in the High Ridge cemetery here. Mrs. Bailey died outside the church before a physician could be summoned. When the physician reached her, she was pronounced dead. Services for Mr. Bailey were then postponed until the following day. Charlotte May Runyan, daughter of Charles H. and Nora Rodgers Runyan, was born Apr. 20, 1890, and passed away at 2:28 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 28, 1951, at the age of 60 years, 10 months and eight days. On Feb. 14, 1912, she was united in marriage to Lewis H. Collier of Emporia, Kan., by the Rev. A. W. Luce, minister of the Stanberry Christian church. To this union were born two children; Mrs. Evelyn Collier Arnburg and Richard Collier, both of Omaha, Neb. She was united in marriage on June 16, 1928, to George Bailey. To this union were born three children; Mrs. John Messner, Mrs. Lee Graves and Mrs. Leland Boatwright, all of Stanberry. Mrs. Bailey had spent most of her life in this community and was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Methodist church here. Mrs. Bailey had been employed at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. here for several years. Besides her children, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Nora E. Runyan of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Earl Runyan of Council Bluffs, Ia., and Fred Runyan of Omaha, and a sister, Mrs. A. E. DeWaal, also of Omaha. She also leaves six grandchildren.
