All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight, (probably Thursday, March 9), 1933: Died in chair as brother is near: Samuel Bailey died at home here while seated in a chair and as brother watched: Samuel and Thos. Bailey have lived in a little home in norhtwest Stanberry for several years. The two have been close companions and the two brothers lived in each other's company. They were what might be termed almost constant companions. Samuel Bailey took ill last week and last Friday, as he sat in a chair in the kitchen at their home, death claimed him while his brother sat only a few feet away. So calmly did he die even his brother was at first unaware of his death. Bailey had been ill for two or three days but it was not believed his condition was serious. He arose last Friday morning as usual and went out into the kitchen of their home and seated himself on a chair. Thos. Bailey advised his brother that possibly he should go back to bed, but the brother refused to go. A few minutes later he was dead. Fred Miller had called at the Bailey home that morning and he came into the kitchen just at the time that Thos. Bailey noticed his brother was not moving. Miller was sent to call Dr. S. E. Simpson to the home but there were no signs of live when he arrived. Bailey's death occurred about 9:30 o'clock. Dr. C. I. Pray, county coroner, was called from Albany and he pronounced death as being due to enlargement of the heart. The following obituary has been furnished this office: Samuel L. Bailey, son of John and Sarah Bailey, was born near Bolckow, in Andrew county, MO., October 27, 1873, and died at his home in Stanberry March 3, 1933, at the age of 59 years, five months and six days. He is survived by his mother, three sisters, Mrs. Jincy Kimbrell, Mrs. John Murry, both of Stanberry, and Mrs. William Neeley of Bolckow; four brothers, Thomas and Fred of Stanberry, Caleb of Kansas City and William of Fort Worth, TX. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Pennington Undertaking Co. Parlors, conducted by the Rev. N. O. Rogers, pastor of the Christian Church. Interment was in the High Ridge Cemetery.
