All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight, Thursday, February 7, 1957: Samuel Baker Taken by Death: Final services were held Monday afternoon in the Stanberry Methodist church for Samuel Nelson Baker, 80, long-time Stanberry resident, who was taken by death early Sunday morning, following a long illness. The rites were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Richard Davis, assisted by the Rev. R. T. Ware, pastor of the Stanberry Baptist church. Burial was in the High Ridge cemetery, under the direction of the Phillips Mortuary. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fannie Baker, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Wade Dorsey, living in California, and Mrs. Lloyd Slagle, Stanberry; a brother, Isaac Baker, Stanberry; two sisters, Mrs. Bert Malson, Albany, and Mrs. George Umphry, Stanberry; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Baker was a member of the Hugginsville Methodist church and the Stanberry Masonic lodge. Until a year or so ago, when he quit to take a trip to the West coast, Mr. Baker served as weigh master at the city scales.
