Funeral services were held for John Henry Bauer at 2:30 o'clock yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at his home, conducted by the Rev. Frank Groom, Baptist minister of Darlington. Burial was in High Ridge Cemetery. Bauer, a widely-known farmer, and resident of this vicinity the past 58 years, died at 1:40 o'clock Tuesday morning at his farm home 4 1/2 miles southeast of town, following a two weeks' illness. His condition was not thought to be serious but a few hours before his death, which was attributed to pneumonia. Bauer first became ill with what was apparently a severe cold. While suffering from the cold he contracted the measles. Less than 24 hours before his death, pneumonia developed from which he did not recover. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bauer, he was born at Muscatine, IA., on January 13, 1878, and was 64 years old at his death. At the age of six he came with his parents to Gentry county and settled southeast of Stanberry, where he had since made his home. During his early life he was associated with his father in general farming. He also follwed the carpenter trade in his spare time, and was known to have patented several inventions of unique farm gates. On May 25, 1932, he was married to Mrs. Rosa Shelton of Stanberry. Their married life has been spent on their farm southeast of town. In early life he united with the Methodist church in Muscatine, and retained his membership there throughout his life. In additon to the widow of the home, he is survived by four step children, Mrs. Ivan Switzer and Mrs. Daryl York of Kansas City and Chas. Shelton jr., and Joan Shelton of the home.
