All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight, Thursday, February 7, 1957: Judge Paul Brown Taken by Death: Paul Brown, former sheriff of Gentry county and former probate judge and magistrate of the county, died last Wednesday evening at the Gentry County Memorial hospital in Albany. He was past 67 years of age. Judge Brown had been in failing health for the past eight years. He had been a resident of Albany for many years. Brown, a lifelong Republican, was appointed sheriff of this county early in 1920 to serve out an unexpired term. He was elected to the office for a 4-year term in 1924. He later served six months as probate judge under an appointment in 1944 and later was elected to the office. He held that post until Jan. 1, 1949. He was the son of Jim and Ida (Bright) Brown and was born near Stanberry on Mar. 2, 1899. He grew to manhood in this community. He was married to Miss Margaret Mae Ficklin, also of Stanberry, on Feb. 2, 1922. Two sons, Eugene and Max, were born to this union. Judge Brown was a distributor of Sinclair products for many years. He was living in Albany at that time and built up a wide acquaintance over that entire area. He was a member of Athens Masonic Lodge, No. 127. He is survived by the widow, of the home; the two sons and their wives and children, Eugene, Joyce and Gregg Brown, of Kansas City, Mo., and Max, Marietta and Larry Brown, of Des Moines, Ia. Judge Brown also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ted (Mona) Groat of St. Langley, British Columbia, and a brother, Mervin Brown, of Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Memorial services were held last Saturday afternoon at the Brooks-Cochell Funeral Home in Albany. The service was conducted by the Rev. George Manning of Albany and interment was in the High Ridge cemetery here.
