"Butch" Butt, 82, Tarkio, died Feb. 27, 2004 at his home, following a battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 4, 1922 in Stanberry; the son of Thomas H. and Amy Rote (Howard) Butt. He was a 1940 graduate of Stanberry high school. In October of 1942, Butt entered the United States Air Force and served in the Aleutian Islands. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in December of 1945, he returned to Stanberry and resumed work at the Vogt Poultry Co. He was united in marriage to Elise Robertson at the Stanberry Christian Church parsonage. They made their home in Stanberry where he continued to work for the Vogt Co. for 19 years and then worked at the Just Right Dairy Co. for six years. In 1961, they moved to Tarkio, where they owned and operated the El Ray Motel until retiring in 1983. Mr. Butt was a former member of the Stanberry American Legion and was a life member of the VFW of Tarkio. He is survived by his wife, Elise, of the home; three sisters, Maxine Bales, Excelsior Springs; Genevieve Young, Louisville, KY. and Mary Jean Butt, St. Joseph; two brothers, Tom Butt, Jr., Stanberry and William Butts, Kansas City; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donnie Butt. Funeral services were held on March 1 at the Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio. Burial was in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry; with graveside military services under the auspices of the Allen-Schiffer American Legion Post #199.
