Joseph Guy Carothers was born on May 20, 1878 at Galesburg, Knox, Illinois to 
John Carothers II (born December 27, 1846 Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio, died 
October 31, 1915 Stanberry, Gentry, Missouri) and Mary Jane Campbell (born May 
18, 1853 Illinois, died October 23, 1923 Stanberry, Missouri). 

Joseph married Sophronia Myrick on August 31, 1899 at Darlington, Gentry, 
Missouri. 

The couple had 8 children: 
Hazel Naomi (born June 7, 1900 - 1990); 

Jennie Imogene (born on August 17, 1903-1965); 

Margaret V. (born on July 9, 1905-); 

John Guy (born on July 28, 1908); 

Claude L. (born on April 17, 1911); 

Georgia (born on Jan 26, 1913-1962); 

Carol C. (born on April 14, 1917) and 

Gordon Adrian (born on November 11, 1919-2002).

Joseph Guy Carothers died July 4, 1936 at Mount Moriah, Harrison, Missouri. He 
had lived 58 years, 1 month and 13 days. He was retired from being a boiler 
maker. Died from chronic nephritis and pneumonia. Joe is buried at the Stoner 
Cemetery, Harrison, Missouri. 

Found in the 1900 census living at Stanberry, Gentry, Missouri: Guy Crothers 
23 , Sophonia A Crothers 20, Maggie Cogdill 25. 

Found in the 1910 census at Cooper, Gentry, Missouri: Guy J Carathers 32, 
Sophronia E Carathers 30, Hazel S Carathers 9, Jenny I Carathers 6, Margarete C 
Carathers 4, John G Carathers 1. 

Found in the 1920, 1930 censuses at Trail Creek, Harrison, Missouri: 
1920: Joseph G Carothers 43; Sophronia Carothers 39; Marguerite Carothers 14; 
John Guy Carothers 11; Claud L Carothers 9; Georgia A Carothers 7; Carol C 
Carothers 2 yrs 9 mos ; Gordon A Carothers 2 mos. 

1930: Joseph G Carothers 52, Euphrasia E Carothers 50, John G Carothers 21, 
Claud L Carothers 19, Georgia C Carothers 17, Carol C Carothers 13, Gordon A 
Carothers 10.
