Chapman: Former Stanberrian, 86, died Monday at a Butler, MO., nursing home following illness. R. P. (Price) Chapman, 86, a resident of Stanberry and the Alanthus area for most of his life, died Monday morning at a Butler, MO.; nursing home where he had been cared for during the past several years. He had suffered a stroke about four years ago and had been in ill health from that date. Funeral services were held for him yesterday afternoon at the Phillips mortuary, with the Rev. Don Stanley, pastor of the First Baptist church here, officiating. Burial was in the High Ridge cemetery. Mr. Chapman, during his residence in this city, operated a dray business and for a number of years was employed as a mechanic in the Wabash Railroad Co. shops. He was the son of the late Thomas and Hannah Chapman, and was born near Alanthus. He was married in 1890 to Miss Lottie Powers. She died in 1917. During their earlier married life, they had farmed in the Alanthus community. He had been a member of the First Baptist church here for many years. About seven years ago he left Stanberry for Kansas City where he resided with a granddaughter for a time, until the conditon of his health made it necessary to provide care for him in a nursing home. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Cox, of the state of California; and Mrs. Irene Cooper, of Butler, MO.; two brothers, Willis Chapman and M. M. Chapman, both of this city; one sister, Mrs. Julia Gage, of Alanthus; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
