Chilton, 93, one of this community's older residents, died quietly at the Munro Rest home here about 7 o'clock Monday morning. She had entered the rest home about a year ago, but had remained relatively active until only a few weeks ago, when relatives and friends realized that her sturdy strength was rapidly slipping away. Of one of the pioneer families of the section, she had seen much of the development of the Stanberry community. She was born near Plattsburg, MO., on June 26, 1857, and lacked only about two months of being 94 years old. She was the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. J. T. Daniel. Her father was one of the circuit riding Baptist ministers of this section of Missouri. When she was a child, the family moved to Old Mt. Pleasant, and she was married there to Fortunatis Chilton on Feb. 29, 1872. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to the Chilton farm adjoining the Wilson rural school, about three miles northeast of Stanberry. This farm was her home until her husband retired and they came to Stanberry more than 38 years ago. Since that time Stanberry had been her home. At the age of 11 years, she united with the Baptist church and remained a loyal member of that church throughout her long life. She had been a member of Hunter chapter of the Order of Eastern Star for a number of years. Surviving are one son, Ora D. Chilton, of McCook, Neb.; one daughter, Mrs. Lou Brown, Stanberry; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives. She was an aunt of Dr. C. M. Chilton, a prominent retired minister of St. Joseph. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Stanberry Baptist church. Last rites were conducted by the Rev. Dr. C. M. Chilton of St. Joseph and Elder Horace Munro assisted. Burial was in High Ridge cemetery.
