The Stanberry Herald, Gentry County Missouri, Thursday, February 18, 1915, front page: 
Rachel Ann Gumm  was  born  March  28,  1835,  in  Fayette  county,  Ohio,  near
Washington court house. When about 10 years of age she, with her parents came to
Green county, Mo., and then came with her parents to Andrew county,  Mo.,  about
the year 1846.

She was married on March 28, 1855, to Samuel R. Couch, who died 8 years ago, and
was the mother of 3(sic) children, 4(sic) of whom are still living: J. J.  Couch
of King City, Mo.; Mrs. I.N. O'Neale of near Island City, Mo., Mrs. Ed. Walters,
of St. Joseph, Mo., and Mrs. C. E. Savage, the youngest with whom she  made  her
home for many years.

In early life she united with the M. E. church, but later she became a member of
the Baptist church, being a true Christian woman.
