All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight, Thursday, October 29 and November 5, 1953: George Cyrus DePriest, son of John and Mary DePriest, was born at the old DePriest homestead in Mt. Pleasant, MO., Feb. 8, 1873, and died Oct. 25, 1953, at the age of 80 years, eight months and 17 days. He was a member of the old Mt. Pleasant Christian church and later transferred his membership to the Stanberry Christian church. He was married Jan. 14, 1897, to Estella M. Wilson and two daughters were born to them, Bonnie L. DePriest and Opal F. DePriest Norment. Mr. DePriest was engaged in farming until the death of Mrs. DePriest, Jan 14, 1921. He then moved to Stanberry and served one term as city marshal here. In 1927, he went to Anaconda, Mont., and made his home there until 1942, when he returned to Stanberry and made his home here with his daughters. He suffered a stroke of paralysis in February, 1952, and had been in failing health since that time, being critically in for four weeks. Besides the two daughters, he is survived by one brother, Ed E. DePriest, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Rosella Cofer, and by five brothers, Cleo, Noah, John W., Barney and Clarence.
