Saffer, the daughter of Rev. James Saffer and wife, was born near Fulton, Illinois, February 16, 1854. She died at the family residence in Stanberry, Missouri, April 12, 1923, aged 69 years, 1 month and 26 days. At about the age of ten her parents settled in Harrison county, Missouri and there at the old Saffer homestead a few miles southwest of Bethany, she grew to womanhood. When about seventeen or eighteen years of age she became a Christian, uniting with the old White Oak Baptist Church in White Oak Township Harrison county. She was united in marriage to N. G. Dillion March 20, 1873, and to this union five children were born, two of whom are dead. One son, Jesse D. of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Bessie Revanough of Fairfax, Mrs. Grace Evans of Stanberry and a step-son, Walter W. of LaHunta, Colo., are left to mourn her departure together with the husband and three brothers, J. R. Saffer of Luray, Kansas, George of Oklahoma, Charlie of Bethany, also two sisters, Mrs. Moilie Miller of Matkins, and Mrs. Susan Clark of Bethany. There are sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. For some thirty years Mr. and Mrs. Dillon have lived in Stanberry. Upon their arrival here they united with the First Baptist Church and have lived in the church these years. The funeral services in memory of sister Dillon were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. J. B. Hyde. Music was rendered by a quartett from the church. Interment was in High Ridge Cemetery. Early and late I watch and wait at Memory's gate. As I peer through, Friends I once knew throng the dim view. Far down the way wee children stray, and talk and play; they seem so near I almost hear the words they say. I know I trace each tiny face. O moments rare. Dear vision fair loved ones are there. Some day, I know that I shall go to where they dwell - till then Ah! well - early and late I'll watch and wait at Memory's gate.
