Echterling, 78, Albany, died May 18, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center in Albany, following a battle with cancer. He was born March 14, 1927 in Parnell; the son of Julius and Marie (Brown) Echterling. He graduated from King City high school in 1945 and was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran. He was a lifelong farmer in Gentry County and raised horses. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Lewis, Denver, CO. In 1957, Mr. Echterling married Arlene Uthe. Additional survivors include two daughters and their spouses, Becky and Stu Wertenberger, Tulsa, OK. and Cathy and Kurt Huffaker, Maysville; four grandchildren, Jessica and Amanda Wertenberger and Hannah and Abby Huffaker; three sisters, Helen Welch, Parnell; Mary Lewis, Stanberry and Sister May Phyllis Echterling, OSB, Colorado Springs, CO. and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial was held on May 23 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Stanberry. A prayer service was held on May 22 at Roberson-Polley Chapel in Albany. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ford City, with military honors by King City American Legion Post #132. Memorial contributions may be given to Gentry County Cancer Fund or St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ford City.
