All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Tri-County News, Friday, November 22, 2002: Mabel Irene Evans, 91, Stanberry, died Nov. 12, 2002, at Pine View Manor in Stanberry. Mrs. Evans was born Dec. 10, 1910, near Clarksdale; the daughter of Garfield and Anna Kemp Darnell. They later moved to the Prairie Flower community, northwest of KIng City, where Mabel grew up. After finishing grade school at Prairie Flower, she graduated from Lafayette high school, five miles away, ater completing the two year course. She married J. Bob Evans on April 27, 1929, and they resided on a farm near Island City until his death in 1978. Mabel lived at Friendly Heights Apts. in Stanberry until her failing health made the move to Pine View Manor necessary. Mrs. Evans was a member of the Island City Christian Church and Ladies Aid Society; a former member of the Beggs and Island City Community Clubs and the Island City Rebekah Lodge. Mrs. Evans was also preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Darnell; two sisters, Verna Delphenick and Agnes Oliver; twin daughters, Sandra Joyce McDonald and an infant, Sondra Fern Evans and on grandson, Bret Michael McDonald. Survivors include a son, Gene Evans, Stanberry; a daughter, Carolee Rose Riley, Bashor, KS.; a brother, Lloyd Darnell, King City; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held on Nov. 15 at Johnson Funeral Home, with burial in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or her church.
