Ferguson, 90, King City, died July 6, 2000, at his home in Berlin, MO. Mr. Ferguson was born on the family farm, west of Berlin on Dec. 22, 1909, the son of Isaiah and Malinda (Rainey) Ferguson. He was the youngest of five children and was six months old when his father died. He was also preceded in death by his mother in 1959 and three brothers, Maurice, Lawrence and Gerry Ferguson, and a sister, Velma Stegman. Mr. Ferguson was a retired farmer and had lived in the Berlin coummunity all his life. He was the 1927 Valedictorian of Grandview high school near Berlin. He served in the Navy Air Corps in World War II in San Diego, CA., and Corpus Christi, TX. He married Dorothea Hardwick on Dec. 22, 1945, in Kansas City. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1996. Mr. Ferguson was an active life-long member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Berlin and was amember of the Board of Directors of the Berlin Cemetery from the time of its incorporation. He was a member of the King City American Legion Post #132, King City. His farm was recognized by the University of MO. Extension as a MO. Century Farm in 1992. He served for 35 years as a member of the board of directors of the Gentry County Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Carol Ferguson and her husband, Ralph Klapis, of Valparaiso, IN.; a son, John Hardwick Ferguson and friend, Kate Hall, King City; two grandchildren, Justin and Shannon Ferguson, both of Kansas City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on July 10 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Berlin, conducted by Rev. Doug Delaney. Music was provided by Ralph Klapis, soloist and Steve Bryson, organist. Pallbearers were M. L. McCrea, Rich Rainey, Jerry Gilbert, Harlen Stegman, Walter R. Miller and James Burks. Military services were under the auspices of the King City American Legion Post #132. Arrangements were handled by Gibson Funeral Home, King City. Burial was in the Berlin cemetery.
