Virgil was born Sept. 29, 1908, in the Empire Prairie community, west of King City. He had farmed in the King City area all of his life and was a member of the Star Chapel United Methodist Church on Empire Prairie. He loved baseball and had served as the catcher for the former Empire Prairie baseball team. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, trap shooting and fishing. Virgil married Beatrice V. Boley on Oct. 11, 1931. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1984. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Emma (Holeman) Gibson; two brothers, Charlie and Lloyd Gibson and two sisters, Lena Mae Gibson and Bonnie Abbott. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Burch and her husband Wyatt, King City; a son, Eddie Gibson, and wife, Annie, Lake Ozark; two sisters, Isabell Van Gilder, Lee's Summit and Betty Ebersold, Union Star; five grandchildren, Joni (Burch) Brewer and husband, Dan, Manchester; Cyndi (Gibson) Gamble and husband, Bill, Jefferson City; Jack Burch, King City; Chuck Gibson and wife, Tammy, King City and Jerry Burch and wife, Diane, Leesburg, VA.; five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Colby Gibson, Patrick Brewer and Katie and Jack Gamble. Funeral services were held on Oct. 6 at Gibson Funeral Home in King City, with Pastor Ken Jameson officiating. Music was provided by Mike Tritten. Pallbearers included Jack Burch, Jerry Burch, Dan Brewer, Patrick Brewer, Bill Gamble, Jack Gamble, Chuck Gibson and Colby Gibson. Honorary pallbearers were Kenton Ebersold, Kendall Ebersold, Melvin Gibson and Gene Cotter. Interment was in the King City cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hands of Hope Hospice or the King City Summer Youth League Baseball Assn., in care of Gibson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 552, King City, MO. 64463.
