News-Press; Saturday, March 18, 2006 Maxine Graham 1921- 2006; LIBERTY, Mo. - Maxine Graham, 84, of Liberty and a former resident of Alanthus Grove, Mo., passed away Friday, March 17, 2006, at her home. Maxine, the daughter of Roy Everett and Deva Gladys (Barnes) Bentley was born July 16, 1921, in Worth County, Mo. Maxine was a 1941 graduate of Stanberry, Mo., high school and taught at the Jennings School northeast of Alanthus in 1943 to 1944. She was a member of the Alanthus Church of Christ for many years and then became a member of the Claycomo Church of Christ after moving to Liberty in 2000. She was elected republican committeewoman for Wilson Township for many years and served in the republican women's organization for Gentry County, Mo. On Feb. 21, 1944, she married George J. Graham in Atchison, Kan.; and they began their married life in Stanberry. In 1949, they moved to a farm south of Alanthus. In 1963, they purchased a grocery and feed store in Alanthus Grove, and in 1964, they moved from the farm to Alanthus to be near the store. The family-owned business was operational for approximately 10 years. She was a homemaker all her life, and enjoyed music, cooking, and being with family and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; and her brothers, Robert "Bud" Bentley and Ellis Bentley. Survivors include daughters, Karen Graham, Liberty; and Anita Gail Buelow, Kearney, Mo.; sons, Jim Graham, Liberty; and Ron Graham, Stanberry; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Alanthus Church of Christ. The family will receive friends 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Roberson- Polley Chapel, Stanberry, where friends may call after noon Sunday. Burial: High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.
