All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Tri-County News; Friday, December 28, 2001: Lee Yost Hawthorne, 74, Stanberry, died Dec. 23, 2001, at a helath-care center in Stanberry. Mr. Hawthorne, in his early years, worked with his father, Lester, who was one of the four founders of Big 4 Hardware in Stanberry. Later, he was employed as a traveling hardware salesman and worked extensively on church- related endeavors in Oklahoma. Born in Denver on Sept. 22, 1927, he lived in Oklahoma and California, but spent most of his life in Stanberry. Mr. Hawthorne was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Stanberry and Tulsa, OK., and the Thousand Palms Community Church, Thousand Palms, Ca. He married Mary Ann Malone in California. She survives of the home. Mr. Hawthorne was preceded in death by his parents, Lester L. and Vi June. Additional survivors include two step-sons, Richard Kenyon, Encinitia, Ca. and Dan Kenyon, Palm Springs, CA.; a step-daughter, Linda Smith, Palm Springs and five step-grandchildren. Services will be held Dec. 29 at Johnson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with burial in High Ridge Cemetery, both in Stanberry. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Stanberry.
