The son of Evelyn Heaton and the late Oville Heaton, he was born March 6, 1934 at Albany. He was an avid sports fan, and worked numerous years in the Springfield Parks Department. He had received several awards for his softball dedication, and was inducted into the National Indicator Frate at the Softball Hall of Fame. He was a deacon and active member of the Valley View Baptist Church, Springfield. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Twila Wideman. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Arlene, seven children, Leo Heaton, Jacksonville, Fla.; Virginia Essary, Strafford, Sandra Bellomy and Lisa Helmick, both of Walnut Grove, Paula Mabary, Buffalo, Brian and James Heaton, Both of Springfield; his mother, Evelyn Schweback, Stanberry; two brothers, Leonard Heaton, Las Vegas, Nev., and Eldon Heaton, Duluth, Geo.; and twenty four grandchildren. Funeral services were September 10, 1999 at Walnut Grove with burial at High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.
