All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Tri-County News; Friday, December 3 to 10, 2004: Carol Jean Wolverton Helm, 59, Smithville, died Dec. 2, 2004 at North Kansas City Hospital, of heart failure. She was born June 4, 1945 in Stanberry; the youngest daughter of Onie and Ethel (Petty) Wolverton. On July 11, 1971, she married Tom Helm of Smithville. They had two children in addition to Tom and his departed wife, Dorothy's, four children. Mrs. Helm was a high school teacher and homemaker, working as a physical education instructor for the Smithville School District and later as a substitute teacher. She was an avid golfer and a member of the doting mother's club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, and her parents. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Lloyd Poff of Stanberry; son, Ryan Helm and wife, Sarah, of Smithville; son, Scott Helm and wife, Jenny, of Shawnee, KS.; step-sons, Tom Helm, New York City; Mike Helm, Chula Vista, CA.; Dan Helm and wife Valerie, Smithville; step- daughter, Dorothy Lafferty and husband, Patrick, Kansas City; grandchildren, Heather and Shane Mecham, Mark and Valerie Helm, Janie, Natalie and Deidre Helm, Colleen Lafferty and honorary grandchild, Karen Goodner; close friend, Patricia Bowling, of the home; aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held on Dec. 7 at the First Baptist Church in Smithville. Graveside services and burial were held at High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.
